Sadly this past March we said goodbye to a part of our family, Lucas. Lucas came into our lives a little over nine years ago. We knew he was getting older, but when he slowed down a good bit during his daily walks, we didn’t quite realize there was something more going on.
My wife took him for his regular nail clipping and the veterinarian noticed he wasn’t himself. She asked to do some scans and the resulting news rattled our world. Lucas was sick and had some internal bleeding. The vet gave my wife some options, of which, none were going to fix our buddy.
We brought Lucas home and loved on him for the evening. He woke us early the next morning around 3 a.m. We got up and loved on him, crying over what we knew the day would hold. Lucas left us March 25.
He was the best friend a guy could have! I miss his handshakes, his sitting on command, the walks together, and his laying at my feet while I worked.
I will miss his expression when I would come home with some new musical instrument. It seemed like he was saying “You brought home another noise maker?” 🙂
